District One Hosts Camp PACK

As a component of the South Carolina Read to Succeed Act, school districts are required to host a summer reading camp for identified students in third grade in an effort to increase literacy skills and be promoted to the next grade level.

Spartanburg School District One has been awarded South Carolina’s Summer Reading Camp Community Partnership Grant, which will fund "Camp P.A.C.K." (Preparing All Community Kids) for eligible first through third-grade students throughout the summer months. Camp PACK will provide District One students who are below grade-level reading proficiency with the opportunity to receive quality, intensive instructional services and support through collaborative partnerships between local community organizations and the school district. Spartanburg District One has partnered with the YMCA, First Tee, the Greenville Zoo and Porkchop Productions to provide eligible students with personalized learning opportunities and hands-on STEAM activities throughout the summer. Regular attendance will be encouraged through fun themed weeks and school supplies that are accumulated throughout the camp. In addition, every student who attends Camp PACK will receive free books to help build their home libraries and encourage reading. The camp will be housed at Campobello-Gramling School and will run June 11-July 19 from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
