Mabry Middle School student, Karley Gregg, was recently named one of five nationwide recipients of the Genes In Space Junior Scientist Award. Karley was one of 789 students across the United States to submit an entry for the Junior Scientist competition. Participants were charged with designing a DNA experiment that addresses challenges in space travel and deep space exploration. Karley's experiment topic was the effect of microgravity on T cell activation, which is currently being reviewed by NASA to possibly be used in their International Space Station. As an award winner, Karley received a miniPCR DNA Discovery SystemTM  for her school, allowing her a chance to share her passion for DNA science with her classmates. The DNA Discovery SystemTM includes the same biotechnology equipment that is now in use aboard the International Space Station.
