WELCOME TO CARDINAL COUNTRY
John Cann “The Landrum High School Athletic Department has achieved great success in recent years. Just since the fall of 2006, we have won 21 Region Championships, 12 Upper State Championships, 7 individual State titles in track and 7 team State championships. The 2009 Fall season saw Boys CC win their 2nd straight 1A State title and our Girls CC win the 1st State title in school history – defeating all 1A and 2A schools statewide. Girls Tennis made their 2nd straight appearance in Upper State Championships, losing to perennial State champion and region foe, CCES. VB lost in a 5 game thriller match for Upper State championship to eventual State champion and region foe, Southside Christian School. Football came in 2nd place in our region and played a 1st round playoff game with a young team.
In 2006-07, LHS won the prestigious Herald-Journal General Excellence Award as having the best over-all athletic program in our area to include all of Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties. This was the first time a 1A school had ever won the award. The past two years since winning, we have come in second place to 4A Dorman High School, which is over 6x our size in enrollment. We have also finished in the top 5 of all Class A schools statewide for past 5 years – coming in a close 2nd to CCES this past year for the prestigious SCHSL Class A Directors Cup. We are off to a great start in 2009-10, with 2 State titles in our Fall sport season.
Since 2006, we have had over 100 athletes named to Class A - All State teams, to include team and individual track events. We have had 21 Region Coaches of the year and 4 State wide Coaches of the year. Just named from our 2009 Fall season, we had 2 Herald - Journal athletes of the year in VB and CC, 2 statewide players of the year and 2 State coaches of the year in CC. Since 2001, we have had 29 athletes sign to play in college, 21 of those on scholarship. In year 2009-2010, we currently have 15 athletes @ 11 different colleges/Universities in Football, Volleyball, Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Softball and Track. We have had over 20 athletes chosen to play in Statewide All-Star games in football, volleyball, basketball, softball and baseball. We have had 8 athletes chosen as Statewide players of the year in their respective sports since 2002 and had a Male or Female Region Athlete of the year each of the past 5 years.
We have a dedicated staff of coaches that put their athletes first and we all truly work as a team. We strive to instill good character, good sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic in our student-athletes to help them succeed in the real world. Our coaches, teams and new facilities are incredible and very much appreciated and supported by the communities of Landrum and Campobello.
